Diagonal (2007)

diagonal

Thesis show work.

Even though the beauty will fade away, is it better to offer the chance to experience all the beauty at once or should one only offer certain amount beauty at times so the beauty will exist all the time.

Using the uniqueness of space called corner, I applied the balance of power and physical elements such as gravity to hanger in order to offer diagonal line to the standard living space composed of perpendicular and horizontal lines. The hanger itself can't have a significant meaning by itself and the space 'corner' is just a dark space until the hanger is placed. Once the hanger is placed into the corner, the hanger takes up the role as a hanger and the corner with 'diagonal' gains new value. Despite the fact that closets exist, old hangers couldn't bring out what the users wanted and led them to pile up clothing in the corner of the house.

Project 'Why not?'.

We can fill time with a lot of different things.

The existing clocks has the limits of application in space since its system is made to be rotated by the central axis. Therefore, by arranging works part on the exterior, the center of the clock can be turned into another value. Its values and meanings are flexible that they differ from how the users make a choice on its condition such as location and method. The back side contains minimal information, not indicating the hour hand, so that it can minimize the error the users would make when recognizing time.

project_08 Making solar things better.

Platform 12 : Sam Hecht, Durrell Bishop, Andre Klauser.

Through researching the solar powered battery charger I have made two observations.
The charger requires two weeks to charge the cells, causing an element of storage to become a necessary function of the unit. The nature in which we use batteries creates a rotational system by which we discharge one battery, and replace it with another charged one.By using this behaviour as inspiration, I have created a storage unit in which the used batteries slot into the top and a fully charged one is dispensed from the bottom. The lower the position of the cell in the storage unit, the more charge it will have absorbed.

Project_01 Radio Active.

Platform 12 : Sam Hecht, Durrell Bishop, Andre Klauser.

An analog radio is one of most important product for a blind people. In the using a behavior of how people manipulated rather than burying all of interaction in to the product. So adjusting radio to the right station would require a new kind of manipulation rather than simply tuning a knob.
‘R1’ has designed for them to control the radio more intuitively. By using a wheel structure user can control the radio by physical movement. The ‘R1’ allowed users to turn gadget on or off and to control volume and tuning simply by physically rolling the radio forward, backward and sideways.
Functionally, by using bevel gear system, I could increase a tuning range more than four times wider than before. There were too many channels in a narrow display before.

Project_04 Observation

Platform 12 : Sam Hecht, Durrell Bishop, Andre Klauser.

This light shows two kinds of cultures and functions. This light has a same instructure with a blind. User can change the shape of shade by pulling a string. Through the control the light makes diffrent atmosphere such as diffused and straight light. The upper part of shade has finished by high glossy black and lower part has made of chinese paper. Those changing and contrast show combining of two kind of cultures.

Bamboo_Broom (2009)

Project_11 Cleaning connection

Platform 12 : Sam Hecht, Durrell Bishop, Andre Klauser.

This Bamboo Broom is not only a normal broom but also can connect to a vacuum system. The bamboo broom is made of natural bamboo with rubber spray. It has two meanings between natural and industrial products through the finishing of the product.

Project _01 Radio Active.

Platform 12 : Sam Hecht, Durrell Bishop, Andre Klauser.

The 'R2' shows two functions honestly through a function of each part visually. The anaolg radio has two functions such as tuning and volume. It has devided as two sections like speaker section and display section. By moving a position of red knob user can control the 'R2'. Generally, people rarely change their channel.

Project_05 Picturing a camera

Platform 12 : Sam Hecht, Durrell Bishop, Andre Klauser.

A beautiful picture not comes from 'beautiful camera' but comes from 'beautiful moment'.

This camera accessory helps to catch the beautiful moment by using a beep sound and a twinkle light. Those effects like sound and light make stiffen moment when people take a picture. However, it also makes a natural moment. Push your button whenever you find the natural moment.

Playground (2007)

Interaction playground for children

Course tutor Ron Arad. Course company Mothercare.

This is a playground for children. An instructure air system has connected each other. So, they can move the air to the other section by pushing and pumping. Through that physical experiences, they can creat their mountain, valley and forest themselves. And a line graphic shows the changing of a configuration of the ground.

Y-flow (2007)

Thesis show work.

Former musical instruments' sound quality has reached its saturation and only the outer design or shape is being differentiated these days. From the past, music had the power to bring people together, but despite such a power modern day people exclude themselves from others by plugging their MP3 or CD player earphones. With the new music player, the effort is made to not exclude oneself from others, but to utilize the power of music, bringing people together through communication. The visual expression of the earphone wire indirectly conveys the genre, beat and state of the music to one another and this leads to mutual sympathy. The color of wire and the music player itself displays the genre of the music and the flow and bursts of lights show the state of the music. The motive of the figure of the music player is to portray 'flow' visually and human's heart and plant's stem were the basic motives for it.
